At the scene of your accident

Immediately following your road traffic accident it is vital that you:

• Obtain full details of anyone else involved in the road traffic accident including name, address, vehicle registration number and details of their insurance company;
• Obtain full details of any witnesses to your road traffic accident as they may play a vital part in helping you to prove your case if you decide to pursue a claim;
• Obtain photographic evidence of the accident scene and of any damages vehicles involved in the accident. You should also try and take a photograph of something that will date the accident scene (for example, a copy of that day’s newspaper);
• If you have, or somebody else has, been injured in the accident you should report the accident to the police as soon as possible. You should ensure that the vehicles remain stationary until the police arrive at the scene so that they can obtain details and measurements.

Your injury

If you have been injured as a result of the road traffic accident you should obtain treatment for your injury as soon as possible. If your injury is serious then an ambulance will have been called to take you to hospital where you will be treated in the most appropriate manner.

However, if your injuries are fairly minor you should obtain treatment from either your GP or your local Accident and Emergency Department as soon as possible.

You will be eager to return to your pre-accident state of health as soon as possible.
