How Do You Know If A Person Has Whiplash?
If you or someone you know has been injured in a car accident and is suffering from pain in the neck, shoulders, back or arms, how do you know if this person or if you have whiplash?
Symptoms Of Whiplash
There can be many symptoms of whiplash that will tell you whether a person is suffering from it. The most common symptoms of whiplash are neck injuries. During the course of the accident your neck moves backwards and forwards and stretches beyond its normal and comfortable ranges of movement. It is this extreme stretching of the neck muscles which causes you to feel pain in the back of your neck, often moving down into the shoulders. If you find it difficult to move your neck to the left or right or forwards or backwards without experiencing pain you may well be suffering from whiplash.
If you feel stiffness moving into the shoulders and across the top of your back this can be another sign that you are suffering from a whiplash injury. You might find that you can not rotate your arms in a circular motion without experiencing pain or that they will not go as high as they did prior to the accident. This could be another sign that a person has whiplash.
Another sign that you are suffering from a whiplash injury is if you experience pins and needles or tingling in your arms. This is quite a common form of whiplash and another sign that you are suffering from it.
A back injury can be experinced in the upper or lower back or even right down the middle of your back. If you are suffering back pain following a car accident this could be another sign that you have whiplash.
Finally, other common symptoms can include nausea, dizziness, sickness and a general feeling that you are not quite "with it". Whiplash can make you feel generally unwell, possibly even flu like.
What Should You Do?
If you are suffering from any of these symptoms of a whiplash injury you should immediately consult either your general practitioner or the Accident and Emergency department at your local hospital. They will carry out a full medical examination to ensure that your injuries are no more severe than a whiplash injury and confirm your diagnosis.
You should then seek legal advice from a specialist whiplash claim solicitor who will confirm how you can make a claim for compensation.
