If you have been unfortunate enough to have been injured in a car accident you will need to ensure that you seek the correct treatment for your injuries. If your injuries are serious you will have been taken by ambulance to hospital where your injuries will be assessed by the medical staff and you will be treated appropriately. However, if your injuries are less serious and you are able to ‘walk away’ from the accident, you should visit your local A & E Department, or your GP, as soon as possible after the accident to have your injuries assessed and to receive advice on any painkillers etc that may be ease your pain and aid your recovery.
Not only it is important to visit your local A & E Department or your GP after the accident to receive advice on your injuries but this will also form a record of the accident and proof that you sought medical attention for your injuries, which will be advantageous when making a claim.
In the case of some injuries, such as whiplash, your symptoms may not be apparent until 2 or 3 days after the accident and if you therefore find that your pain is getting worse as the days and weeks go on you should return to your GP for updated advice.
