A lollipop lady has lost her life after a collision with a bus in Ayr.
Audrey Williams, 79, had been helping children from Forehill Primary school cross the road on Hillfoot Road in Ayr on Thursday, 13th January 2011. As she turned to go back across the road she was hit by a bus carrying school children from the nearby Queen Margarets Academy.
Mrs Williams, who had been a school crossing patroller for approximately 10 years, was taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital with a head injury, but died a short time later.
Mrs Williams was a well known and well liked figure in the community and, although unhurt, the children and pedestrians who witnessed the accident are all said to be extremely distressed. The Headteacher of Forehill Primary School, Sheena Templeton, said that when the news of Mrs Williams death has sunk in the school will think of a fitting way in which to remember their much loved lollipop lady.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident but no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
