Mesothelioma Compensation ClaimsThe most common cause of work related deaths in the UK is asbestos. Asbestos is a natural substance, widely used for insulation, which becomes a danger if you are exposed to a high number of asbestos fibres. One of the main diseases caused by exposure to asbestos is Mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer which affects the lining of the lungs. This disease is most commonly related to over exposure to asbestos in work related settings and it can take between 30-40 years for symptoms to become apparent. Unfortunately, mesothelioma is often fatal very soon after diagnosis. If you are, or someone you know is, suffering from mesothelioma you may be wondering whether you can make a claim and how much compensation you are likely to receive. You need someone to advise you and answer these questions for you. Loyalty Law can help you quickly and efficiently and our service for you is completely free of charge.
The symptoms of mesothelioma include shortness of breath, pain in your chest and back, a persistent cough and wheezing, loss of appetite and weight loss. If you have any of these symptoms and believe you may have been exposed to asbestos you should visit your GP as soon as possible so that a diagnosis can be made.
If you are suffering from mesothelioma you have three years from the date of the diagnosis in which to make a claim. In the unfortunate event that you are looking to make a claim on behalf of someone who has died from mesothelioma, you have three years from the date of death in which to make a claim. These three year time scales are extremely important as if they are exceeded without your claim being settled, or court proceedings being issued, you will be prevented from making a claim.
Due to the nature of asbestos related diseases (namely that symptoms do not present until many years after the exposure) claims for compensation for mesothelioma can often be complicated as, for example, the person you were working for when suffering the exposure may no longer be in business. However, this should not deter you from making a claim as our Loyalty Law solicitors may be able to pursue the claim against the relevant insurance company.
Loyalty Law have expert, specially trained mesothelioma solicitors who will be able to guide you through the claims process and answer any questions you may have.
